Annie Abrahams hat ihr Biologiestudium an der Universität von Utrecht abgeschlossen und einen Master von der Akademie der Schönen Künste in Arnhem erhalten. In ihrer Arbeit nutzt sie Video, Internet und performative Elemente und fragt nach den Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Kommunikation. Sie ist weltweit bekannt für ihre Netzkunst und kollektiven Schreibversuche. Sie ist ein international anerkannte Pionierin der vernetzten Performance-Kunst. Ihre Arbeiten werden im Centre Pompidou, Paris und in vielen internationalen Galerien wie dem Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb; Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center in Ashville, USA; Espai d’Art Contemporani de Castelló, Spanien; New Museum, New York; Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art, Yerevan; Furtherfield Gallery in London und NIMk in Amsterdam; auch auf Festivals wie dem Moscow Film Festival; dem Internationalen Film Festival von Rotterdam und dem Stuttgarter Filmwinter (1st Preis 2011) und auf Online-Plattformen wie Rhizome.org und Turbulence.org. Im Jahr 2012 war sie Mitorganisatorin des ersten Cyposium – einem Online-Symposium über Cyberformance. Im Jahr 2013 begann sie mit Emmanuel Guez das ReadingClub Projekt, einem Online-Treffpunkt für kollaboratives Schreiben und Lesen. Im Jahr 2014 veröffentlichte sie zwei Bücher: „from estranger to e-stranger“ mit CONA und Aksioma, Ljubljana; und „CyPosium – the book“, zusammen mit Helen Varley Jamieson das durch LINK Editions veröffentlichtet wurde.

Annie Abrahams completed studies in Biology at the University of Utrecht and has a Master’s degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem. In her work she uses video, internet and performative elements to question the possibilities and limitations of communication. She is known world wide for her networked and collective writing experiments. She is an internationally recognized pioneer of networked performance art. Her work has been presented at the Center Pompidou, Paris and in many international galleries such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb; Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center in Ashville, USA; Espai d ‘Art Contemporani de Castelló, Spain; New Museum, New York; Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art, Yerevan; Furtherfield Gallery in London and NIMk in Amsterdam; at festivals such as the Moscow Film Festival; The International Film Festival of Rotterdam and the Stuttgart Filmwinter (1st Prize 2011); and on online platforms such as Rhizome.org and Turbulence.org. In 2012 she was a co-organiser of the first Cyposium – an online symposium on cyberformance. In 2013, together with Emmanuel Guez she began the ReadingClub project, an online meeting place for collaborative writing and reading. Annie will be a guest at the Villa Waldberta during April 2018, where she will collaborate with Helen Varley Jamieson to present their performance Unaussprechbarlich and develop a new work around the same theme of language, for a multi-language audience.
